Announcement: Christine Alfrey's Artwork Selected for Naturalist Gallery Nature Exhibition

I'm thrilled to announce that my artwork, Periwinkle Flowers, Water's Spirit, Ms Pileated, At the End of the Rainbow, Migration Trail, Quartz Trail, Sacred Places and Along the Shore III have all been selected for a prestigious online exhibition at the Naturalist Gallery Nature Exhibition. This exhibition will run from January 19 to March 19, showcasing a diverse range of nature-inspired art.

The Naturalist Gallery usually focusses on very representational nature work – so it is a please for me to be part of a change for their gallery with not realistic naturalist work.  It is always fun to see changes like this – and the inclusion of difference in their gallery.

The Search and Moving Forward

Featured image: Arizona Landscape

About a year ago, I traveled to the southwest. I found there was something magical there. I wrote this today recalling that trip and its magical aura.

I felt my feet touch the ground. I was peaceful. Taking a breath, I stepped forward, feeling the earth beneath me. Another breath. My body felt the pleasure of touching the earth and slowly moving forward. The connection to the earth was magical. I was grounded, to the air and to the world around me. It was just the earth and me. I took another step, another breath, moved forward again.

It’s the journey and the search that is so magical. Without the search ….. well, for me, what is left is despair, which is why I love the beginning of the painting, the beginning of creating something, and the search and the pleasure of moving the paint, helping it find its home and its content.

The Arts in Our Culture

Featured image: Dancing with The Wind and The Trees

I received very sad news on Friday when I was down at New Visions making a videotape of my exhibition, Allegories from the Earth.  The Marshfield Clinic is going to close the gallery as of the end of my exhibition! It so confirms my gut feeling about the arts in our culture.

Fields of Energy

 Featured image: Whispering Winds

A sense of wonder is about living with the majestic forces of nature.  Wind, rain, water, fire, frost. All are a source of energy.

A powerful source of an energy field is to be explored with a sense of wonder.  Becoming part of their energy field is nothing short of divine. When you surround yourself with these energy fields from the earth, letting them surround you, quietly they create a space of peace; for me it is a holy place.

My work, Whispering Winds, along with many others will be featured during my solo exhibition, Allegories from the Earth.

Inner Compass

 Featured image: Inner Compass

I think reason is important for the formation of a community. However, reason isn't the all-important end all of questioning and should never be absolute. It should never exclude the imaginary and wonder of the self which is always filled with possibility.

Follow your inner compass - feed your inner soul - always allow yourself to imagine and wonder.

My work, Inner Compass, along with many others will be featured during my solo exhibition, Allegories from the Earth.
